Objectives of the Program
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Understand the concept of nursing assistance
- Understand basic anatomy and physiology and body mechanics
- Collect, store, and transport stool, sputum and urine specimens
- Perform his/her duties with professionalism and confidence.

- 17
years or older
- Pass the entrance exam
- Adult and Infant CPR/ Healthcare provider CPR
- Current Immunization Record

Curriculam
Description of the program
This program is designed for people who plan to work for hospitals, nursing
homes or long-term care centers. The theory lecture includes classroom teaching.
The student in these theory lectures will study and learn about Anatomy,
Physiology of Human body, body mechanics, infection control, prevention and
management of catastrophe and unusual occurrences, patient care skills, vital
signs, interpersonal and communication skills, and rehabilitative skills. The
clinical training includes Basic body mechanics, transfer techniques,
ambulation, proper body mechanics/ positioning techniques, Collection of
specimens including stool, urine, and sputum, care of patient with tubing,
gastric, oxygen, urinary, IV, bed making, cleansing enemas, laxative
suppositories, admission, transfer, discharge, bandages, non sterile dry
application of non-legend topical ointments to intact skin.
The program will give students the required confidence to be a better performing
nursing assistant.
The Nursing Assistant program at IME prepares the students for state licensure
exam.
